The Japanese board game of shogi has seen the emergence of a new superstar.

Fujii Sota is now the first player in history to hold all eight major titles at once. And he's all of just 21 years old.

Shogi is a traditional game similar to chess.

Fujii faced off in the Oza championship against Nagase Takuya, 10 years his senior and the defending champion.

Wednesday's match in Kyoto was the fourth of a best-of-five series.

The players spent a long time pondering their moves. Nagase gradually got the upper hand.

After they had used up their allotted time, Fujii and Nagase had just a minute to make their moves.

At that point, the tide turned against Nagase, and he conceded after the 138th move of the match.

Fujii won the series with three wins and one loss.
